11 Poems About Owning Yourself & Your Worth

11 Poems About Owning Yourself & Your Worth

Being your authentic self behind closed doors is easy, but showing your authentic self to others can be scary. What if they think you’re weird? What if they don’t like what they see? What if they think your beliefs are a little too wild?

These are the questions and inner conversations that hold us back from being who we are really meant to be. These are the limitations that hold you back from finding your SOUL friends and family.

I hope this collection of poems about owning yourself & your worth gives you the courage to roar into life loudly, proudly & unapologetically.

It’s time to set yourself free.

Poetry About Owning Your Authentic SELF

1. Set Yourself Free - Jadine Lydia

set yourself free
from the limitations
that keep you bound
tightly; the politeness
that quietens your voice
when you want to
scream! from the rooftops.

set yourself free
from the chains
that keep you
b/a/r/r/e/d
and locked up
in [c a p t i v i t y];
your soul longs
to fly free.

set yourself free
from the expectation
of being anything
other than the person
you were meant to be;
be yourself,
believe in yourself,
and most
importantly,
be free.

10. Shadow Love - Jadine Lydia

She welcomed her new acquaintance,
the shadow beneath her skin.
Dark ink ran through her veins,
fuelling her deepest, darkest sins.
Her prowling, sensual being,
the animal laced with shame.
Her feisty, assertive priestess,
a goddess with no vain.
Her wrongdoings and guilty pleasures,
all things laced in black.
She held them in her heart
and stirred a love from lack.
For she was whole in her being,
even in the deadliest of sins.
She was whole in her goddess,
in wrongdoings and her wins.
And so she welcomed this acquaintance
and stopped striving for the light.
She truly loved the darkness
of her unruly shadow side.

extract from – And So She Chose

11. Love After Love - Derek Walcott
