When life feels heavy, it can often be difficult to cultivate gratitude in our hearts. As we witness the pain, confusion and chaos in our lives and the world around us, gratitude may feel like a fleeting thing; the last flutter of a butterflies wing.
However, it is during these moments that we must look for the light, spin our world upside down and look for what feels good from the inside.
Gratitude is not a dismissal of your worries, troubles and fears; it’s a gentle reminder that not all is dark and laced with tears. It is up to you, and only you, to find the tiny moments of golden nectar in your heart.

sometimes, it just hits me
slap bang in the middle
of my wild, jaded heart.
that ecstatic feeling;
a sharp slap
on my cheek of chalk
that says:
wake up! this is life.
it is here to be had,
it is yours to be felt
and you are here to delve
into the good
the bad
and the beautiful.
give thanks,
for you are alive
and every little cell
in your ever-expanding body
is renewed + revived.
you are alive.

Things.
The sickness producing
compassion. The job loss,
courage. The disability,
humility. The broken friendship,
clarity. The failed dream,
resilience. The death,
a hope of Heaven.
You do not have to be grateful
for the Bad Thing, but
can you see the ways
it has been redeemed
and resurrected into
the
Very
Good
Things?
All of those lost
pieces of your life
reshaping and growing you,
a mysterious exchange
of grief for glory.
