11 Breathtaking Pieces of Poetry About the Sea

The sound of the sea is an expansive source of poetic inspiration, as well as a soundscape in itself. She is a reflection of rage and power, as rolling waves roar beneath stormy skies. Her song lures us into a meditative state as white water washes the carpets of sandy shores. She invites us to embrace the many emotions that reside within ourselves. Anger, calmness, chaos and clarity; they all exist beneath the white horses that dance upon the waves.

And as the fizz of foam seeps beneath silent pebbles on the surface, we realise we are simply water, moving, changing, flowing, and evaporating in the dance of so called life. Here are seven absolutely breathtaking poems about the sea, enjoy.

Poems about the sea

1. White Dust – Jadine Lydia

She glittered.
A thousand sparkles
twinkling on a turquoise sea.
She sprinkled
White dust
On tiny pyramids of crystal, clear water,
blessing each wave with eternal bliss.
She floated
Light as a feather,
buoyant and bright,
cradled by an ever-moving sea.
She sang;
Streaming darkness
from the watery depths,
simply to be free.

2. Beneath the surface - Jadine Lydia

the sunlight dances
on the surface
of an ever-changing sea
and i wonder what it has in store
for the depths of you and me.

3. She Calls – Jadine Lydia

And so, she wailed.
The soft sound of a siren
calling her home.
She cried,
long tears of a stormy sea,
her hazy gaze, leading her astray,
a myriad of turquoise
laced with soft palettes of grey.
Lovingly, longingly,
she swept her soul,
through channels, through tides,
through ebbs and flow.
Raging waters,
And rugged rocks,
her fears and worries
tumbled and rocked.
And suddenly,
as if by magic,
the sea sat still.
Her palette cleared,
she lifted her gaze
to see her light being
stand tall in the waves.
Beckoning her to come home.

4. Sea Poem - Lauren Marina

5. Sea - Bronagh M. Dunne.

ever changing, constant
rhythmic and random
silence, full of sound
like cold water
soothes my soul

gull cry awakens
saline cleanses
and vastness dwarfs
as I sit and breathe
the hearty air

sometimes I talk
and the waves listen
but mostly the waves talk
while I sit still
and listen

6. We Gather By The Sea - DipCLub

7. high Tide - Jadine Lydia

ocean hold me
like the tide holding
the undercurrents
of a waxing, silky moon
laced with tenderness
blessed with madness
as my waves
lull me back
to you.

8. Ocean Miracle - Jadine Lydia

sometimes,
i look out at the ocean
and see her right in front of me;
a glade of hope on the horizon,
my miracle out at sea.

9. Similar to the ocean - R.Clift

10. Age of Aquarius - Jadine Lydia

In the age of Aquarius,
she was brought back to life.
With white pearls around her neck,
and a trident of turquoise love.
She swam in the oceans,
and bathed in ancient ruins,
she held a locket to her heart,
golden with pure wisdom.
She let her lungs fill,
with water and white light,
and sprayed fountains of beauty,
against pale pink, cloud-washed skies.
She called in the light,
her matrix shifting times,
a Piscean priestess,
a warrior of the light.
This was her time;
in the ocean of life.
This was her time,
in the life of paradise.

extract from – And So She Chose

11. Horizons - Jadine Lydia

keep your eyes on the horizon,
always look up they say
but i prefer to dive deep into the ocean
of untethered emotion
and see what feelings
come up to play.
