So often, we seek to avoid the flames. We believe that fire destroys, when in truth, it restores. When you surrender to the flames, you begin to transmute and transform your deepest fears. It is here that your power lies, it is here that your strength is found, it is here from which you rise.
Here is a collection of poetry about fire to inspire you to tap into the flames within. Whether you are floating like ashes, rising like smoke, or finding yourself in a whirlwind of fierce flames, let these poems warm you, stoke you, and inspire you to embrace your raging fire within.
Poetry About Fire
1. Fire – Becky Hemsley
“do not go near the flames,” he said “beware the sparks and heat be careful of the white hot ash that burns beneath our feet.”
“fret not” she said, “come closer as these flames grow ever higher and you’ll see i have nothing to fear for I’m the whole damn fire.”
Girl, you were born with a fire inside you, and this world is determined to stamp it out. You will see it when you stand up for yourself and you are told ‘It isn’t ladylike to raise your voice.’
You will hear it when you wear something that hugs your body and feel the uncomfortable sensation of being stripped naked by the eyes of men who call you names you are still too young to understand.
You will know it when a man tries to use his strength to have his way with you the first time, and you will need to use your fists/teeth/legs to get him off.
You will understand it when you see your mother’s eyes filled with terror because you are an hour later than you said you will be home.
But you must never ever let them take those flames from within your soul, instead, you must burn brighter than ever because you are a Daughter of the Sun, and you belong only to yourself, not to this world.
She is fire, he is ice. One glimpse of her ignites his stone cold eyes. The heat of her body melts the frozen parts of his heart. He walks through flames just to feel her warmth.
you picked me, to be your flame you chose me, to see your soul and let me hold every piece of you. until your next becoming – the becoming of you, becoming you over and over again. and I hope that I am your match time and time again, striking and reigniting our forever-growing flame.
warm fire smile I taste your heat you’ve always been ablaze and you’ve never apologized for setting fire to the house (it needed to burn, anyway) I feel your release I feel that it’s different now DO YOU HEAR ME? I SAID IT’S DIFFERENT NOW! I said I wish I could burn like you but I am water that never stops spilling (can fire spill?) my water grows an algae film when your fire can get you wherever you want demanding and tenderizing and so ******* wild I adore you in your blaze I savor your fiery rage I lick the plate of ashes that remain.
She shifted, she sorted, she sighed; a slight sadness filled her humble heart. A collection of summer snapshots to be boxed, stored and kept stowed neatly in the attic until the rising of spring. Autumn drew in and her sentiment took hold; a warm glow, tainted with the ever-fading sun. She reminisced; crispy, baked blackberry pies, crackling log fires and cocoa dusted cream. The winds howled, the leaves fell and the earth rumbled. and in this snapshot behind a dusty frame, she waited quietly, and expectantly for the birth of her bonfire sky.
I know a woman who is made of flame and ash she greets hell like an old friend and doesn’t bat a lash I have witnessed a woman consumed over and over by the pyre only to re-emerge anew – darling, have faith in your fire.
Remember what you must do when they undervalue you, when they think your softness is your weakness, when they treat your kindness like it is their advantage.
You awaken every dragon, every wolf, every monster that sleeps inside of you and you remind them what hell looks like when it wears the skin of a gentle human.
